Benefits of quitting smoking?Hi, well I'm 27 years of age, and I smoke...I got some chest pains a month back and it turned out to be costochondritis (inflammation of chest joints), but it scared me enough to quit smoking, and I've been off it for 9 days so far, but I honestly don't plan to go back to it. My question is. Will my health improve so that I'm least susceptible to cancers or heart diseases at some point? Remember I'm 27 and cancer and heart diseases do not run in my family genes.

Well, at 27, you can't have been smoking for THAT long, so, sure, you'll be fine, unlike newsanchor Peter Jennings, who quit smoking after, like, 30+ years and yet still died of lung cancer anyway! (see link, below)

you seriously reduce the chance of various cancers after quitting smoking. Gradually you'll see your health bounce back.
