Is it normal for heart rate to increase a lot when smoking marijuana? It seems that whenever some people I know smoke marijuana, their heart rate increases very rapidly and they complain that it feels like their heart is beating way too fast and that it almost feels like it's about to jump out of their chest. However, I know a few other people who never seem to have an increase in heart rate when they smoke. Also, some people, no matter how often they smoke, seem to always cough a lot when they smoke and others seem to be able to breathe it in with no problem....any ideas?

I know my heart didn't start racing when I smoked marijuana until I started having panic attacks from it. Although, panic attacks come along with more symptoms than just that -- and they'd honestly feel as if they were having a heart attack. The coughing thing, it's different for everyone. It also depends on how good the weed is and how big of a hit you take.

mine never does.....but all people react to things differently....yet in all the time i'vedone it i've never known anyone whose heart rate increases just by toking a little of the silly green.....i'd be willing to bet if you aren't actually seeing them do it that they are doing speed, meth or coke or something like that...now that really WILL make the heart act like it's trying to escape from your chest....so maybe they aren't telling you the whole truth?

Actually i think those who get tachycardia and chest pain are luckier than those who don't, because this is just a sign to tell them give up.regarding why they react differently may be due to variations in the receptors and chronicity of use.any how using it for longer period in both groups lead to brain damage and craving for harder drugs like heroin.
all-knowing "1"
yes, it is fairly common.
