Can anyone suggest some really smoking cessation programs? This is my second attempt this year, quit for 2 months to get into better health because we wanted to get pregant, I got pregnant but miscarried, then started back to smoking. Now 2 weeks back smoking my chest hurts all the time and I have a terrible cough. I want to quit but I need support, my husband is a smoke and will not give it up.

It is really tough to stop with your spouse still smoking. I have been through this many time. Finally I tried Chantix after I got down to 4 cigarettes a day. It worked very well and my husband decided to try it after he saw how well it worked for me. It takes away the desire so all you have to deal with is the Habitual, you know like I always wanted one after a big meal. I hope you are successful. Having children is a wonderful experience. Good health.

I'm 50 yrs of age smoked between 10 to 20 a day, for the last 35 yrs. given up more times than i can remember,(2&1/2 yrs once).had a stroke a couple of months ago.given up on DR's orders .it's hard but now i have a good incentive(near death expereance does that) there are so many products out there to help , don't try cold turkey as this hardly works .but at the end of the day only you can muster the will power to do it.try web sites and listen to others who have done it . get as many people in your corner for help. good luck kid

There are many programs available. Probably some are available in your local community. Contact your city hall or local library to see if they can recommend local programs.
Most people choose to incorporate pharmacological therapies. You probably know people who have use drugs like Zyban or nicotine replacement therapies like the patch or nicotine gum.
If your addiction is strong, multiple therapies like the patch coupled with nicotine gum would be valuable. The patch provides a steady flow of nicotine to your system. The gum can help you overcome periodic cravings brought on by environmental cues that you usually associate with smoking.
Some programs involve aversion therapy, such as rapid smoking which attempts to make you ill by taking a puff ever 10 seconds or so.
One of the most effective quit smoking aversion therapies is electric shock aversion therapy. In one study, 43% of the subjects were still abstinent after one year.
Shock therapy is used in the Schick Shadel treatment program for addictions.
