Can occasional smoking cause serious health problems?I'm a college student, and smoking around our campus isn't that unusual. I'm an occasional smoker, I only smoke when me and my beer buddies hangout, or when after eating a big meal. The most number of sticks I smoke in a week ranges from 7-8 (3-5 most of the time), compared to my peers, that's very small. I know about the dangers involved in smoking, but can occasional smoking do a lot of harm? If so, what are the possible problems I could get from doing it?

If you smoke just that amount mate unless you have a predisposition towards lung cancer or throat cancer etc. you most likely run into a problem but if you start turning it into a habit like me smoking 1-3 packs a day depending on my mood it can screw up your lungs it may not give you cancer but if you cantinue like that you will eventually see a decrease in your lung effectiveness.

Yes, harm can be done but of course not as much as someone who smokes more. Any smoking can do some amount of lung damage. However, when one quits, especially if not a heavy smoker, some of the damage can be undone with time.
It's up to you to take that risk or not. Some people smoke all their lives and don't die of smoking related issues....some never smoke and still die of lung cancer. There's no guarantee either way, but smoking does reduce your lung capacity and thicken your blood (which means your heart has to work harder).

7-8 a week, is not occasional smoking. just because your buddys smoke alot more than you doesnt mean the amount you smoke is nothing. theyl just die of cancer sooner than you.
I think your addicted to it, try to go a week without a fag, if your not addicted this should be very easy, you shouldnt crave them. i think youl find your not an 'occasional smoker' but just a smoker who only smokes 1 or 2 a day
i assume your around your friends when they are smoking and even if your not smoking with them your still getting the damage from the secondhand smoke. most of the bad parts in the smoke are invisible so even if you sit out of the line of smoke, your still inhaling toxins.
possible problems are the same as any other smoker
cancers, infections, death
i think you should attempt to quite while you still only smoke 1 or 2 a day
