I'm quitting smoking and I'm 20, should I be worried about weight gain?I'm in the process of quitting smoking, it's been a week, I haven't gained any weight yet but I think it was only because I had the stomach virus. I'm 20, female about 5'3 and have always weighed about 105lbs. Should I be worried about gaining some weight and if yes how much. I also work outside a lot on grass and stuff, so I "work out" a decent amount, would that keep the weight off?

yes, 9 times out of ten a smoker will gain weight when they quit, but a little exercise is enough to control this.

I'd be more worried about cancer, emphysemia, and premature wrinkles! If you think you'll gain weight start exercising. Not wanting to gain weight is the worst excuse Ive ever heard of for not quitting smoking.
Non-Smoker New Identity
The process of quitting smoking, or any addiction, requires the development of a new identity as the old identity of smoker is released. Being a non-smoker is not an identity, it is what you are not. It is important to grieve the old identity of smoker and develop a new identity that is not congruent with smoking.
