When is Death?

When is Death?some theologians voiced their concern that doctors may appear to be taking into their hands decisions that rightfully belongs to God. in legal definitions, death occurs during complete cessation of the person's animal and vital signs such as blood circulations, respirations, etc...but until recently, lungs and hearts that had completely stopped can now be revive and how can one diagnosed a coma as irreversible? the substantial benefits of modern resuscitations behoove us to seek a new view of death.

only god knows the exact time of death

I thought the legal/medical defintion of death had something to do with brainwave activity, often indicated by the pupils being fixed-and-dilated. Admittedly, brainwaves are hard to determine with a standard doctor examination, but I don't think we need a new "view of death."

Which is why jewish law prohibits terminating a coma.

True, there are new ways to resuscitate a person, but that doesn't change death. A machine that is keeping a person's lungs going for example doesn't mean that person is still alive. I believe that he/she is dead when they have to be kept "alive" by a machine.

Anybody else who feels the way I do should have a Health Care Power of Attorney. Your family shouldn't have to make that kind of decision without your consent.

It is a consensus of the collective.
