Anyone taken Chantix to quit smoking???I just started taking Chantix four days ago. I have been smoking about 1 pack to 1 1/2 packs of menthol lights every day for about 13 years. I have heard wonderful things about how effective Chantix is in aiding smoking cessation. I was just wondering if anyone had been successful in quitting smoking w/ Chantix without doing the online support program at the same time? Or is the support program necessary in order to improve your success? I was also wondering if the Chantix actually reduces your craving for a cigarette, or just eliminates your brains response to having a cigarette? Basically I would appreciate any information you can provide about your knowledge and experience with taking Chantix.:) Thank you in advance for your response.:)

Hi Sophi......in Canada the drug Chantix is called Champix. I used it for 3 days and had to stop due to SEVERE headache......really intense headache.......that went away after a day of not taking the drug. My close freind is 3 weeks on the drug (a very heavy smoker) and is doing very well......responding well to the drug (no side effects except for sleep disturbances).......she has been successful but had the strong motivation for quitting as her husband (who quit smoking 5 years ago) was just diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer.........I am back on the nico patches........day #1 of sooooooooooooo many ill fated attempts........this has been the hardest challenge of my life..........good luck to you!

I took Chantix from October through December of last year. Chantix did a great job of getting rid of the physical cravings but it does nothing for the behavioral cravings. Any activity that I associated with smoking still would cause me to want to smoke (like driving, going to a bar, after a meal, etc) so you will need to find something to help you in those situations (twizzlers or suckers can help) and after the first week or so of not smoking the behavioral cravings start going away and become fewer and farther between.
Honestly though, I haven't smoked since October and every couple of weeks I still have a craving but it goes away just as quick as it came on.
Good luck quitting!
