Christians: Why are so many of you against the legalization of marijuana ... ?

Christians: Why are so many of you against the legalization of marijuana ... ?When tobacco is legal and it's a scientific fact that there are hardly any health benefits from smoking tobacco, but medical marijuana is proven to be successful for many people? The most vocal opponents of legalizing marijuana are the religious fundies associated with the religious right. Why are you so afraid of a plant that grows naturally in this earth's soil?

I know not all Christians are against it, and I know many who do want it legalized, but those of you who are against it ... what are your religious based reasons for being opposed to marijuana?

They have a complex where they need to believe everything that authority figures told them when they were young. It's a consequence of abuse. It's not something you should argue with them about. They're mentally unstable people who need help from a psychologist but will probably never get it.

Because marijuana f---s up your head, and when your head is messed up you can;t concentrate on the things of God. Thus , marijuana causes people to forget the words of God, and even willfully ignore them.

Because it might make them actually think...and we can't have that now can we?

Emergency edit:
OMG, I just have to reply to the one delta ten tango below me. What you have stated is total BS. Humans have receptors for a number of "mind altering" substances...to name a few: DMT, opiates, and THC. The fact that we have receptors hardwired into our biology to break down and use these substances is evidence in my opinion that we are meant to use them. Our bodies even produce minute amounts of THC and DMT. I would go into greater detail, but I am sure you are already confused.

In both marijuana and tobacco, the substances that humans exploit are neurotoxins, which God placed in the plants as a defense against overgrazing by herbivores. The animals avoid it, but only humans are dumb enough to consume MORE of it.
The Bible says that we are not to pollute our bodies, which are the temple of the Holy Spirit. It says to "touch not the unclean thing, and I will receive you".
I can't imagine that God would be in favor of an abuse of one of the plants He created so that humans could make themselves kooky with it.

Atlas
The only Biblical reasons that I know of are about obeying the laws of the land and not being controlled by any substance.

I am a Christian in support of legalizing marijuana, and think it's astonishingly foolish and short-sighted not to considering the revenue that could be brought in from the taxes that could give a significant boost to the economy and help spare the layoffs of teachers and other vital members of the community. There was a LA Times article last spring about how it could make drastic improvements to our economy and overall well-being. If it was regulated it would be safer, and there would be more education about how to safely use it. I am undergoing chemotherapy at the moment, and it's been such an amazing help to me because it's really curbed my nausea, and has given me no negative side effects. I don't have enough to get stoned, and am very happy with the results. I've finally been able to start gaining some weight so I'm not longer 5'9 and 105 pounds as I was before.
I feel like it's been a tremendous blessing to me.
