Do smoking cessation medications really work?My husband is trying to stop smoking. He did it on his own for 3 months and then started again. He says that he wants to try medication now. Anyone with experience with any particular drug? Success? Side effects?

My boyfriend and a family friend used it. The family friend used it for 3 months and stopped ( she had headaches). She still hasn't smoked in over 6 months. She has no desire to. As for my boyfriend, he used it through he first pack and the side effects were bad for him. He had horrible gas and stomach cramps. It did curb his desire but he didn't really commit to it. He just waited for the drug to make him stop, not stopping on his own. He should give it a try if he's really serious and is willing to try to stop. The drug helps but it doesn't do all of the work.

You have to realize that the term "smoking habit" is a total lie. Smoking is a severe drug addiction, so it requires special remedies that are both psychological as well as medical.
SOME medications work, some can work in certain situations, and some do not work at all.
That your husband remained off of the cigarette addiction enslavement for three months and then went back to it is a true testimony to the addictive nature of smoking. Stopping smoking requires the assistance and encouragement of family members and friends and co-workers!
It is awful that smoking is even tolerated in this nation, but then, being as our USA is a corporate-communist conspiracy to inspire we economic prostitutes and consumer slaves to continue to spend our paychecks on things we do not need, we are not encouraged to STOP or NOT START with cigarette smoking! Our government is a for-profit tax-collecting commercial business run by the Republican mafia cult, so the emphasis is to encourage us to smoke or continue smoking, not stop or stay away from them!
The end result is that there are a few "remedies" on the market, and a lot of money-making frauds or shallowly-intended, for-profit attempts to address, not cure, the problem of nicotine addiction. I personally never did smoke, so I do not know the results of various "cure" products. But I know that ceasing smoking forever is a life-long endeavor, from friends I know who did take the plunge into correcting their addicted behavior.
I realize I am not offering any solutions, but maybe my insights will help you to screen through the crap out there.

Almost all of my ex-smoker friends and relatives quit smoking cold turkey without any cessation medication. Some of them have not smoked for over 5-6 years and my father hasn't smoked for over 20 years. I'm quitting it over 3 weeks cold turkey for another try.
Make up the goal, and go for it!! Good luck.
