Doctor Prescribed Wellbutrin SR?Hello,
I went to the Dr yesterday because I wanted to start the new year right and quit dipping tobacco. I told him a friend at work was taking Zyban and it was working well with him. He is even loosing weight.
The Dr, to my suprise, told me that Zyban was just a renamed Antidepressant. He said that the Drug Co found out that people that were on this drug actually quit smoking and he was sure it would work for my Dipping Tobacco.
Well, to be honest I have been rather depressed lately with my marriage failing and getting cut back at work so I figured I would give it a try. The Dr assured me that it was a very safe drug that has been on the market for a long time and the US Military even gave it to people for smoking cessation.
I told him I heard that antidepressants gave bad side effects and even made people fat and men couldn't get it up and he assured me this drug was different. He said most people lose weight on this drug and that my sex life would more than likely get better.
So, I am kinda scared. I never liked taking drugs but I am going to start this weekend. My instructions say take 150mg a day for 7 days then 300mg a day. I really want peoples opinion on this drug, people who have taken it and what their experiences have been especially a guys opinion on the better sex part. Thank you

Unfortunately, I have had a lot of experience with taking anti-depressants and Wellbutrin SR is one of the better medications. Vary rarely are there any side effects. I took it for 3 years and the only reason I had to go off of it is because I had to start going to the VA when I lost my job.

he is right..... Wellbutrin is not like any other anti depressant. It is more likely to make you lose weight and it will more likely increase your sex drive. I loved it at first but had to stop taking it because I am Bipolar and it sent me into a manic episode (it won't do that to you, it only does that if you are Bipolar). I don't think I've ever heard anyone say anything bad about Wellbutrin.

I take generic Wellbutrin SR (150 mg) in the morning, and Lexapro (10 mg) with dinner, for depression and anxiety. I've been taking that for over two years, and it's working very well for me.
The Wellbutrin SR seems to help me to be more alert and active - and wanting to do things - while the Lexapro makes me more mellow, and it helps me sleep better, too. They are relatively low doses of each medication, which keeps side effects at a minimum. I really can't tell I'm taking any medication at all.
There are a lot of people that take Wellbutrin with their SSRI's, it helps to counteract some of the possible side effects - such as drowsiness, weight gain, and the sexual side effects. It really does make a difference!!
