Does Accupuncture fore smoking cessation really work?

Does Accupuncture fore smoking cessation really work?I just had accupuncture today for smoking cessation. The doctor came highly recommended, but she didn't speak English very well and wasn't really able to explain what will exactly happen to me over the next several weeks. I am a heavy smoker, and have cut my smoking by about 50% today. It seems like it's mostly my will power. Should I even be smoking at all after having had this done? Please don't respond with negativity. I really want to see this work, but my cravings are amazing, even after the procedure. Advice?

Good luck with your effort!

I am an acupuncturist and have treated all types of addictions over the years. The acupuncture alone often didn't do it for highly addicted patients; we used herbal therapy in conjunction and about 60% of my patients were able to quit within a month. Not as wonderful a success rate as we usually see treating other conditions, but with motivated patients it seemed pretty effective.

There have been studies that show that acupuncture helps to release serotonin in the brain, so the treatments will help you feel less stressed. Auricular therapy (ear acupuncture) has been highly successful in treating crack adictions, and places like Miami and New York have court mandated programs that require daily auricular acupuncture. So yes, acupuncture has been shown to help with addictive behaviors.
