It worked for me, I have been quit for one year seven months now. it took about two weeks to get into my system but you will start to notice that you don't want a cigarette. You will start to notice that you are not only addicted but you have the habit of just picking one up out of habit when you really don't want one. You need to break not only the addiction but the habit as well. It really made a difference for me and really helped so that I could focus on the fact, the habit was an issue also, so I could avoid situations where I would pick a cigarette up and then realize that I really didn't want it.
Take the medication as prescribed and don't break them up because they are time release. I also noticed that if I took them to late they would keep me up at night. Also watch the amount of caffeine that you drink with them because this also seemed to affect the medication and kept me up at night.
I read the papers that came with the medication and there are a lot of side affects but they can affect people differently, so I would recommend reading the insert just incase you have any of the side affect.
I wish you the best of luck and trust me you will see how much better you feel and it is worth it!
Always remember that if you have a slip up think about the reasons that you quit so you don't start smoking again. Don't punish yourself if you slip up because that only makes it worse, just keep on trying. I had several slip up's but I didn't let it discourage me to smoke the whole pack. Eventually you learn that if you slip it only makes the next few days hard until it is out of your system.
I have tried the gum in the past and I was only smoke free for two months. I found that Wellburtin worked best for me.
Good Luck!

Hi Laurie, I was prescribed Wellbutrin over 15 yrs ago for anxiety symptoms. My doctor at the time also put me on this one to help me quit smoking. I tried it for two weeks. It did not help me quit smoking but it did make me gain weight!! I stopped using it,and asked to use something else for my anxiety. but if you have the desire to quit smoking it probably will help you. I have not tried any other rx's to quit smoking. I am not ready to quit and when or if I am I would probably use one of the patches. Those do work for alot of people.
