had any luck with smoking cessation meds?i started taking wellbutrin about three weeks ago. they say it only starts kicking in after a week or more of taking this medication, but i stopped smoking that same day. my withdrawals were a hellish nightmare, both for myself and others around me. but i have been successful so far, and haven't touched a cig in almost three weeks. i still crave them, but i'm getting stronger each day as a result of my struggles.
i'm trying to ask my girlfriend to stop smoking, and i'd be interested to know any success stories with other meds and any other non-chemical approaches that work.

My brother had temporary success with wellbutrin, but started smoking again after around 5 months; however, I took the med. Chantix and it worked amazingly. I did go through withdrawal but it wasn't too severe because it blocks the nicotine from getting to your brain. It allows for a week of smoking once you start the med. and then you increase your dosage throughout the week. I still get cravings sometimes but their not to bad. I've been smoke free for just over one year now. Good luck and hope this helps.

There's pharmacologic therapy, including nicotine reduction tx, wellbutrin and even chantrix. Hard to predict which might work for the above. Some get benefit from hypnotherapy.
