How can I encourage/reward my Dad for his determination in quitting smoking?

How can I encourage/reward my Dad for his determination in quitting smoking? My Dad has been smoking since he was a teenager (he is now 47), he has attempted to quit smoking many times throughout my life (I am 19), and now after being diagnosed with cancer and having it successfully removed, he really has no other option but to quit. I don't live with my Dad, but I am really the only support he has in this and I want to show him how proud I am of him and keep him going. Do you have any ideas of simple rewards I can provide for my dad besides my encouragement?

Do you spend alot of time with him? Maybe since he isn't so stinky..lol..you might like to sit next to him at a movie of his choice? Give him a big hug and tell him how glad you are that they caught the cancer and how happy you are that he is trying to stick around for another 20-30 years by quitting.

Im adolescent so this might not help but...i would buy him something of great value-(mentally)-that he can keep near his bedside or wherever he is most often so that each day he may remember what great accomplishment he has achieved......such as a plaque or something to that affect

hey! my dad just quit after smoking all his life, hes 70 now, what i noticed is he doesnt want to be asked about it. he told us it was a personal thing and just treat him like normal. i still praise him by; smiling and giving him a happy way to go pat on the shoulder when i see him! he knows what its for! hehe. thats good enough for him. i wish ur dad the best of luck!
