Is there a point in quitting smoking, when almost everyone in your house still smokes?Everyone in my house smokes besides my younger sister and younger brother. My mom, dad, uncle, and older sister all smoke. I am quitting for to work towards a better lifestyle. I have no real support from any of them, but that's not my problem. I know that I can quit smoking, but it is the fact that I live in a household where smoke is every where in the air. I can see the immediate health effects of myself quitting, but aren't I still getting lung damage, risk of heart disease, etc from second hand smoke?

There isn't really any point...Sure you will somewhat reduce your risk of disease and lung damage but not by that much

unless you plan to spend the rest of your life in the house, quitting now will at least help you when you're out of the house. once you've successfully quit then you can take measures in the house to reduce the threat. an air cleaner for your personal space would go a long way especially where you sleep. you and the other non-smokers could then try to convince the smokers to limit themselves and create smoke free zones or times in an effort to control your exposure. convincing others in the house to try to stop would then increase your ranks, it must be a concerted effort. the smokers must be made aware they are violating the rights of non-smokers. i've heard that incidental smoke can be up to 10 times as dangerous. good luck.

Yes, of course there is. There is a big difference between smoking and second hand smoke. And if you have both, of course it would be worse.
You can stop and be an example to the rest of your family. You would have much less of a health risk by you stopping. Just try to stay away from it as much as you can. Leave a window open here or there. Get out of the house as much as you can. Even a walk around the block can help.

Yes, it's still worth quitting! You'll have more energy, feel better and most likely add years onto your life!
As for second hand smoke, it is very damaging; I've heard it said before that it's actually worse since it's unfiltered smoke that others are breathing in. For yourself and for your younger sister and brother you ought to sit your family down and have a serious discussion with them. Let them know you are serious about quitting and that you really need their support. Just because they choose to smoke doesn't mean they have to subject the rest of you to it's damaging effects. Really, how hard is it to step outside? Good luck!

You've got something wrong here; smoking and not living a healthy lifestyle don't go hand in hand. If you smoke you must live a healthy life style so you don't become ill from it. All those studies done on smoking as reasoning for why it's now illegal and or socially unacceptable to do so had their results predetermined and were totally biased. Let's say a person dies at 80 and he is a smoker. He then becomes a smoking statistic, regardless of what really killed him. Wow; science hard at work. Just smoke in moderation. It's no more harmful than drinking in moderation.
