Migraine help, what do you think?I am a 17 year old caucasian male, I reside in South Carolina. I have had several problems this year with migraines, but this one by far has been the worst. I was hospitalized back in October for a migraine that lasted for 2 weeks. The objective of the hospitalization was to see what was causing the headache, and for pain management, however, neither of those objectives were met. I stayed in the hospital for 4 days in October, and when I was released I felt fine. It's now December 14, and I have had a migraine for 4 weeks, without any relief whatsoever.
I have been for 2 of these treatments:
Nubain 50mg Intramuscular Injection
Phenergan 25-50mg Intramuscular Injection
Solu-Medrol 1000mg IV
I go for the last treatment today, and I can't tell a difference yet. The headache has only gotten worst and I have had no relief. I am also on the following medication:
Welbutrin XL 150mg – 1 time per day; prescribed for depression and smoking cessation.
Xanax 0.5mg- 1 tablet at bedtime; prescribed for anxiety.
Trazodone 150mg - 1 tablet at bedtime; prescribed for insomnia.
Varapamil 40mg- 1 tablet 2 times a day; prescribed to prevent migraines.
Indreal 20mg- 1 tablet 4 times a day; prescribe to prevent migraines.
Phenergan 25mg- 1 tablet every 4-6 hours as needed for nausea; prescribed for nausea/vomiting.
Percocet 10/325mg- 1 tablet every 6 hours as needed for pain; prescribed for pain.
Maxalt 10- 1 tablet at the onset of headache, repeat in 2 hours if needed. Do not take more than 3 tablets in 24 hours; prescribed for migraine termination.
My neurologist is board certified in neurology, pain management, and psychiatry, what can I ask him to do?
Please help, I can't keep going like this.
Yes, I have had an MRI, EEG, and a CT Scan. They say that all of the tests have come back normal.

I'm so sorry. Has the neurologist done an EEG or MRI to see if something is going on in the brain?

Face it and he should that pain pills aren't going to give you relief from a muscular problem. They always go for the brain when they should be working on the body. Board certified doesn't mean anything when they keep getting it wrong. Can you push your fingers into your temples, hold pressure there for 20 seconds and have the pain go away? If so it shows that the pain is not within the brain for you have just shorted out the pathway to the brain. It shows that you have the pain coming from the muscles in your back and/or neck. Until those areas are addressed you are bound to live on with your migraines. Here is how to release those muscles:
For your neck:
place your hand alongside your head and push your thumb in under your ear and place it on the muscle there. Take your fingers and place them on the back of your neck on the muscles there. Press them together and hold a good amount of pressure on them. Then relax, take a deep breath an happening, the muscle going limp under the pressure. Continue to hold until the entire muscle has gone limp.
Back:
Place your left hand on your left knee. Place your right hand over your left shoulder and with your fingertips find the muscle next to your spine. Press on it and hold. Relax, take a deep breath and exhale and don't tense up any part of your body. After about 30 seconds there should be a release happening and when it does slowly lower yourself forward onto your right leg. If you can lean over the outside edge of your leg it will be better for your release. Continue holding for a total of one minute. Then release but rest your body there for one minute longer. Then reverse and do the right side.
Do them a minimum of 4x a day for one week and once or twice for the following week. When you do your neck, do it next to your skull and next to your shoulders and alternate them around. For your back put your hand on top of your shoulder blade area and press on them and hold for 30 seconds. Do the same for any place you feel may be tight on your back that you can reach.

There is no known medical cure for migraine headaches, and often migraine sufferers become discouraged when treatments do not rectify the problem. Doctors often prescribe a combination of medications such as abortive and preventative drugs, to try and prevent the migraine before it begins or lessen the pain when a migraine strikes.
Abortive medications will stop the headache and may prevent the recurrence of symptoms. They should be taken at the first indication of a migraine headache. Over-the-counter medications include Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID's) such as ibuprofen, ketoprofen, and naproxen as well as aspirin.
Prescribed medications include ergotamine, a vasoconstrictor, and serotonin receptor agonists. Preventive medication is specifically geared towards people who suffer from recurrent migraines, experiencing at least one a week, and includes prescription medication such as beta-blockers, anti-depressants, anti-convulsants and calcium channel blockers.
Natural Remedies
Herbal and homeopathic remedies can offer an effective natural solution and can be of assistance in alleviating the painful and discomforting symptoms of a migraine. Herbs such as Silybum marianus (Milk Thistle), Passiflora Incarnata and Hypericum perforatum (also known as St. John's Wort) can be extremely beneficial in helping to soothe the recurrence of pounding headaches. In addition, studies have suggested that the herb Feverfew, when used regularly, can help to eliminate or greatly reduce the frequency and severity of headaches and migraines.
In taking a holistic view of your health, you can address many factors that contribute to optimal physical, mental and emotional well-being. Natural and herbal remedies can be used to help address the root causes of the ailment and not just the symptoms.
Can't say this will work for you, but you may give natural way a try. My be consult your doctor if it spossible to take them while on being all of those medications.
