getting the nicotine out of your blood stream will have no effect on you quitting smoking. Even if it is out of your system, you will still crave a cigg.

I quite smoking a year ago. Im not sure how long it takes to get the nicotine out of your system, but even to this day, I still get cravings every once in awhile. The best way for me to stop smoking was to drink ALOT of water, and chew alot of gum. My favorite time to smoke was when I was driving. So, I make sure I have a pack of gum in the car at all times so i can chew on that and not think about smoking.

These days, pharmacies have a special chewing gum like Nicotex and other brands. It is a normal chewing gum with a tinge of nicotine. It comes in various levels such as 50mg/100mg etc. I suggest you may try that for a month or so to quell your urge to smoke and withdrawal symptoms. Every week cut back your nicotex chewing gum by 1.
Thus you could quit smoking completely in about 2 months.

hi ed

actually there are a number of factors, about the nicotine absorption.. as has been pointed out, the craving goes on for some time after you have nicotine out of your blood stream..

i can only tell you as one who has quit several times, that the only thing that worked for me, was a Support group... im a member of nicotine anonymous.. meetings are available both locally in some areas... and a number of voice meetings are available online..

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.
