Smoker: wheezing and coughing. What could this be?About a month ago I had flu and a sore throat. The flu is gone and I'm feeling great but the cough is still there. My throat isn't sore but I have a squeaky sound when I breathe in. It's not in my chest but in my throat. When I cough the phlegm, which is white, comes from my throat and not my lungs.
I am also a smoker for 15 years.
I'm still smoking but am going to a smoking cessation program (Allen Carr) in a week's time. Apparently its very good and my medical aid is sponsoring it. I'm determined to use this opportunity to stop.

The wheeze you are hearing from your throat is due to the chronic coughing you are doing. Your airway is swollen from all the coughing and a wheeze is air that moves through a narrowed space. I'm glad to hear you are taking the steps towards quitting smoking. Have you tried Chantix? This is prescription medication that really works to make the taste of cigarettes just awful to help you quit. Best of luck!
