Usnig Wellbutrin to quit smoking?I went to the doctor today to get Chantix to quit smoking ( I have been smoking for 12 years now ), but she told me that our insurance doesn't pay for that. Instead she percribed Wellbutrin for me.....which I have read is an antidepressant. Does this drug auctually WORK for smoking cessation?
in addition is this drug addictive...my wife is worried that i will quit smoking but then become addicted to the pills. and for those of you who DID quit with wellbutrin how long were you on it for?

You are correct Wellbutrin IS an Antidepressant. So, you should expect the side effect of the antidepressant. Does it work? It did nothing for me and I have been smoking for years myself. This does go according to patient to patient. Most people I know that were prescribed the medication it did not do anything for them either. But I can't say it has not helped any, just very few.

some how it does work i took it about 10 years ago to oquit chewing skoal and it worked and i was chewing for about 20 years. I don't know how but it does work.

yes it does!!!!i tried everything to quit smoking and failed...the doc gave me welbutrin and it really helped,it helps with the pangs for cigerettes as well as the psycholical effects..i took it for 3 years...i have been smoke free for 9 years

another name for Wellbutrin is Zyban and it is prescribed to help you stop smoking, but i have no clue if it actually works
