Any benefits to smoking coffee grounds?

Any benefits to smoking coffee grounds?I'm trying to find the real answer to this question, spurred onward by the "Did you know" on the flap of a pack of American Spirit rolling papers:

"An article published in 1912 suggested substitutes for tobacco such as ground coffee, leaves of the tomato plant, and colt's foot. [Extraneous advertising statement]"

Now, first of all, tomato is a solanaceous plant, in the same family as belladonna and datura, and therefore toxic. (Though said practice may cause mild hallucinations? Or just kill you.) I knew this beforehand, and immediately the suggestions came under suspicion. Wikipedia backs up this concern, with "The leaves, stems, and green unripe fruit of the tomato plant... [are] toxic to humans and animals." So that's one down.

My research seems to suggest sufficient doses of coltsfoot have been linked to cancer of (or at least damage to) the liver, though it seems it was used as a somewhat effective treatment for asthma (A demulcent and expectorant, this seems to explain the suggestion of smoking it). Now it's two to remove.

Now for the coffee. I can't seem to find anything on this one. I can find a lot of people asking the same question, for one reason or another, but nobody seems to know of any facts on the matter. It's only coffee, so apart from the normal cancerous carbons, I can't think of any problems. Would it introduce caffeine into your system? Or just a heavy smell?

Anybody have any info I missed? Or maybe something solid on the coffee bit? My sincere apologies for the lengthy question, and my thanks to all.

Joe
