The Concept of the Afterlife?

The Concept of the Afterlife?This is something that's been on my mind today and I just can't shake it...what are your thoughts?

Here's a breakdown of what I'm trying to say (bear with me, please):

After:
2. later in time than; in succession to; at the close of:

Life:
1. the condition that distinguishes organisms from inorganic objects and dead organisms, being manifested by growth through metabolism, reproduction, and the power of adaptation to environment through changes originating internally.

Afterlife: noun
life after death

Death: 1. the act of dying; the end of life; the total and permanent cessation of all the vital functions of an organism.

It is such a contradiction! If the definition if death is the end-all-be-all and is permanent, how, then can we possibly defend the concept of an after life?

If life is defined as a means by which we measure growth and reproduction, which is no longer possible after one is deceased...Then logically there is no after life?

Life after Death. We define life one way, the ones in the afterlife define it another way.

When your car breaks down, does that mean you 'the driver' stops breathing? No the driver gets out and goes off to either fix the car or get a new one. This life after death refers to the soul leaving a dead body for a new one.

The soul doesn't die, just the body.
