Ex Smokers, what would you consider the best method of quitting smoking?Im not talking about cold turkey. Ive been smoking for 15 years, and I feel like its time to quit. What are some of the best ways that have helped long time smokers quit.
Also, what do people think of the electric cigarettes? Do they work for quitting cigs, or is it just for the physical addiction.
Yeah, while cold turkey CAN work, for me, its not so much of an option. lol. Im Bi-polar, so my mood swings without nicotine fits are bad as is. I live with my family that deals with me as I am.

I smoked for 13 yrs and I hate to tell you.. but nothing will work but cold turkey. I have never known not one single person who has stayed quit that did it any other way. Wean down to just as low as you can go, that helps with the bad withdrawals.. then cut it off. Lay in bed for a few days if you have to, but don't give in. I tried patches, gum.. all kinds of gimmicks. I could cut down with those methods but could never quit. Same for everybody I think. I'm sure there are SOME people who quit using gimmicks but they are few and far between. Both my parents were chain smokers... several packs a day. They smoked for 30 yrs and quit cold turkey. It can be done.

the good news is that i now have been quit for over 5 years.. i quit trying to quit alone, and joined a support group.. i attend nicotine anonymous meetings both locally and on line.. on line voice meetings are he as close as your computer, and you can attend while still smoking, before actually attempting a quit.. however you decide to quit good luck, there is simply no wrong way to quit!!

I have been using electric cigarettes for a few months and they have helped my hubby and I in our quest to quit. I'm cigarette free since 2.9.10.
It makes it soo easy to cut back since you are still getting the nicotine you crave. Week one I went from a pack a day to a 3-5 cigs a day. The hard part was choosing to stop the regular cigs completely. But once you realize the nicotine in ecigs really works, it makes you see you don't need the real cigarettes anymore. And since I was only having a few smokes a day my packs were lasted so long they were getting stale, that helped too, my cigs started to taste bad, it even started to make me sick when I smoked them.
I am still addicted to nicotine, but I've been cutting my nicotine levels back in steps. I am to the point now I use 2 different carts Low and 0 nicotine. I only use the low cart when I am having a craving. I use the 0mg when I feel like I just need to put something in my mouth or just want to puff because it tastes good. I am on track to be nicotine free next month.
I should mention, for this to work you do need to start at the appropriate nicotine level to satisfy your cravings enough to get off regular cigarettes. Then you can start the cutting back process.
It costs me between $ 30-$ 35 a month to smoke. The flavors are also amazing, I thought I would want tobacco flavors, but quickly switched to fruity flavors, my favorite is banana cream.
I found a good vendor that was willing to take the time to answer my questions and support me. If you go the ecig route, you should find a vendor that YOU feel comfortable with. For me that was Epic-Vapor, but there are HUNDREDS to choose from, just google.
