Other Possible Stop Smoking Methods/ Med's for Pregnancy? My wife is having some serious trouble with the whole "Quitting Smoking Thing". Her OB/GYN prescribed Hydroxyzine 25mg dosage, but about all it does is put her in a coma. As soon as she wakes up, she wants one. She seriously cut back (around 5 a day), and all she smokes is Ultra Lights, but it's still brutal hard on her to quit completely.
Any Medical answers other than people complaining about the risks of smoking during pregnancy or Anti-smoking rhetoric. We know that already, and She is legitimately trying to stop smoking, but it's kinda kicking her butt. Help please!

My doctor told me that Nicorette or any other "quit smoking" agents would be fine. If you have the patch, the baby is going to get nicotine either through the cigarette or the patch.
Ultra lites don't make a difference though.
It is most definitely a very hard thing to give up, and kudos to her for wanting to quit!
Will power is a good thing too. Make sure you're encouraging her not to smoke, and that it is best for the health of her and the baby!
She's not the only one who has/does smoke during pregnancy!
Good Luck!

While going cold turkey is a big no no for pregnant mom's (they could go into shock) There are a few natural ways to quit. first of it's great that you are trying to help her, support is the First thing smokers need to quit. There are many methods that may work. From my experiance the smoking diary has helped. have her keep a journal and write everytime she feels like having a smoke the bad things that could happen to her baby if she does not stop and also have her write down all the good things that quitting can do for her and her child not even now, but in the future!
Patches and gum are about as safe as smoking, but they can help her stop. so she is really in no worse of a condition. Rubber bands have seemed to help some as well. Have her put a rubber band around her wrist and when she feels like having a smoke, she can Snap it to teach herself disipline. Really, If I were you, I would try and not go the medical route unless it is gum, Patches or some other aid like that.
I am not sure, but has she ever tried using snuff or sometype of smokeless tobacco to try and Lessen the effects of tobacco? I know it sounds crazy, but Most of the chemicals come from the smoke, So That would be a little better maybe?
I hope she quits and I know it is not easy, but with a little faith, love support and will power, She can do anything.
