quitting smoking cigarettes?so i woke up today not even wanting to smoke, i have smoked for at least the last 14-15 years. is this normal to just wake up one day and not want a cigarette? i never really sat down and said wow i want to quit smoking, it just sort of happened. i guess i figured let's see how the other half lives. also, i am so sick of waking up every morning and hacking and coughing myself to death for 20 minutes in the shower. i have been okay all day (okay so i woke up at 7 and now it's almost 11). the only problem so far is i just ate and now i actually kinda crave a cigarette. unfortunately i cannot simply just not eat so i guess i will have to get used to this.
anyone know how long nicotine persists in the body (or by-products of nicotine?) I feel at this point it's mainly mental..i mean, i can sleep 13 hours straight on the weekends, so that is over half a day with no nicotine, so I assume in the waking hours it is more mental than physical dependence
has anyone quit smoking this way? im thinking odds are when i wake up tomorrow i will really want a cigarette but perhaps not

Try this link it might answer your question, and try the patch or the gum to avoid lighting up again hope it helps and you become smoke free.

If you have the mental part beat you're halfway there but I don't think you will keep on not wanting to smoke because you have the nicotene in your system and it's an addictive drug, it's the physical dependence you have to beat now, you have your work cut out for you, I am not trying to discourage you, just telling you like it is cuae I quit 8 years ago I know what it's like. I would highly recommend that you take one of the aids that are on the market now, I got a pill called Zyban from my doctor and I couldn't have done it without it.
I commend you for trying and I really hope you can do it,. Good luck!!

well it's gonna be hard to quit all at once. best is, if you smoke 1 pack a day, start decreasing 1 every week or so. when you get down to 3, try one after breakfast, one after lunch, and one whenever. then try 2 but if you always need to go back up one, don't put too much strain on your body and go up one and start back down.
