Risk vs. benefits of pipe smoking?recently i've become interested in pipe smoking. I don't smoke cigarettes. I've heard all about the risks of tobacco, but always thought they applied to cigarettes. what are the risks of pipe smoking? I'm reasonably young so if i started pipe smoking i'd be doing it for 60+ years if i continued into old age.

All risk and no benefits. You can still get cancer.

Don't do it. Tobacco is tobacco. It all contains that addicting drug, nicotine. There are zero benefits and way too many risks. Read this book first. "Allan Carr, Easy-way to Stop Smoking." After over 35 years of smoking cigs, this book got me off those devil sticks with no side effects. Been smoke-free a year now. Can even start to breath again!!

Tobacco is tobacco. The same risks apply to pipe smoking as do risks of cigarette smoking. Take up a different hobby, like handball..

Pipe smoking is a great hobby and in my opinion the best form of smoking. Pipe tobacco is awsome, and the ritual of selecting a pipe, packing it with pipe tobacco, and smoking it, is very rewarding and relaxing. Pipe tobacco is not treated with chemicals like cigarette tobacco is, and pipe smokers don't inhale. There are some risks with smoking a pipe, like the potential for mouth cancer, but in my opinion the benefits outweigh the risks. Smoke your pipe in moderation, that is the key.

There was a time when smoking was considered medicinal and can actually be good for you. This was long before research proved that heavy smoking can lead to cancer and many other serious diseases.
Up to now, some people would argue that smoking does have its benefits. Smoking in moderation I supposed.
So what are the benefits? Smoking can help you relax, it can help you get rid of stress and can even help lower blood pressure. But the fact that people can also get addicted to smoking is its biggest downside.
What are the risks? People who are addicted to smoking tend to find it difficult to quit, as a result, they are at a higher risk of getting high blood pressure, cancer and many other diseases.
Regardless whether its cigarettes or cigars or pipe smoking you are into, it is a choice you can only make for yourself.
