smoking problems with my friend?ive been friends with this guy for a while and he just started smoking. hes above the legal age for smoking, also. he is only smoking about 1 cigarette a day. haha. i just wanna know...what are some health problems that you can get as soon as you start smoking? he says that he gets "kind of dizzy" when he smokes, but it goes away...it also makes him get stomachaches temporarily. i just wanna know what some of the short-term affects of smoking are? (NOT LONG-TERM)

Colds last longer and are worse, not as much wind for sports, you can get a smoker's cough . . . unfortunately, that's about it, all pretty trivial stuff, smoking is much too much fun for that to make a dent. You don't get the really bad stuff for many years, and at 1 cig a day he'll never get them. The real risk for him is that he'll keep smoking more and more and get hooked and then eventually he will be at risk of cancer and so forth. So that's what I'd tell him, though I doubt it will do any good.
