We're smokers with different reasons for the habit, we want to quit? His drive is stress, he started a few years ago when he went thru a divorce.
My drive is weight. I was fat until I started smoking. I do exercise, but I am so afraid of gaining even 5lbs that I'm afraid to quit. I don't like to eat--nothing tastes good to me and I like it that way. But if I quit, I'm SCARED TO DEATH that I'll gain weight, which will likely put me into a depression (as has before). I don't have to worry about what I eat right now, and I don't want to have to become consumed by calories or a minimum time at the gym.
I have yet to find a cessation program that deals SPECIFICALLY with weight gain issues.

how is smoking helping you lose weight?

I believe Nicoderm recently made a patch that dealt specifically with weight gain.
And I find it really disgusting that you're using smoking to eat whatever you feel like and not exercise. Endangering your health in more ways than one. It's a bit gross. But then again, I find everything about smoking gross.

I have had the same reason for not quitting, I am deathly afraid of gaining weight. I come from a family of obesity. But for the sake of my kids and grandkids i have set a date to quit smoking. I am going to use the nicorette gum. I tell ya I have joined a gym and I am going to eat nothing but raw veggies while I am quitting. Keep in touch, maybe we should all quit together and give each other support.

The only way either one of you will quit, is if you really want to. I did use smoking to curb my appetite.
Tell yourself that you can't stand cigarettes. Don't change the ashtrays for awhile and see what they smell like. They smell awful don't they. Every time you have an urge to smoke, distract yourself and find something to do. Chew on a toothpick or straw or something.
I smoked for many years. Stress was what got me back to smoking. I can happily say that I have been smoke free for 5+ years. And now, I can not stand cigarettes. I know that I can not afford to smoke these days. You have to be rich to smoke. You realize how much money you are spending a month on smoking? I bet you can think of better things to spend that money on, can't you?
Yes, I did gain some weight this time. But I would rather of gained weight than have an oxygen tube shoved up my nose or something.
I have to say, I gained more weight because my eating had increased. I was always under weight for my size. You can always watch how much you eat so that you don't get out of hand. Start an exercise program. Drink Monavie. That will give you energy. Go to: http://thegreatproduct.com/healthjuice
Just some suggestions for you.
To quit smoking is hard for many people. You are not alone.
Good Luck!!
