Why is it that cutting is considered self harm but smoking isn't?

Why is it that cutting is considered self harm but smoking isn't?I just find it kind of interesting that I'm being put through therapy for one occasion of cutting and those of you who smoke get to continue your addiction, burning up your insides, living your lives like normal people, while all I have are a few scars on my arm.
Just a thought.

perhaps because cutting can kill you quicker....

Because self cutting is considered "self mutilation" and leaves outward scarring. And the pain that is inflicted while doing it is considered pyschological self torture. And the affect of it is immediate....while smokings affect is long term usage and not visibly seen. Nor is smoking considered "mutilation"
