Why is marijuana illegal in the United States?

Why is marijuana illegal in the United States?I take this as a very serious topic. I expect everyone to debate this in a mature way. I am pro-legalization

My first point is that almost every over the counter medication has a statistical death rate. These are deaths directly accounted to the human bodies' reaction to the medication. Marijuana has never been attributed to a direct human fatality.

My second point is that the government and media, as well as their "special interest groups" are the primary reason that marijuana is demonized. This is evident in the 1930's trends in the paper, chemical, drug, and energy industries. (If you do not understand the conflict of interests in the media and government concerning these issues, please take time and research this area.)

My third point. By keeping marijuana a controlled substance we are putting money directly into illegal drug dealer's hands. (This gets used for manufacturing and shipping of other illegal substances, for weapons, for employees, etc.) Everyone always argues that marijuana is a gateway drug. Get real!!!! Alcohol is a real gateway drug that kills every day. If people didn't go to drug dealers to get marijuana they wouldn't have the connections to obtain harder drug. (Beer is a real gateway, 14% of beer drinkers have tried cocaine.) Don't blame marijuana for failed parenting, please. I have had plenty of friends that do not do hard drugs because their parents explained the real consequences.

My last point. Marijuana is praised in medicine, even "hushed" government sponsored studies show this. Doctors everywhere admit to the medical benefits using marijuana with many treatments and medications. Please don't say that marijuana smoke contains chemicals that are harmful. Anyone who has smoked both marijuana and tobacco will admit that marijuana needs to be smoked much less often and marijuana also is less harsh. Also there are ways to avoid any possible ingested chemical issues; by using a ventilator, by ingesting whole, by using a water hookah.

Wow!!! I am amazed at alot of individual's thoughts. The main consern that I have is a direct correlation. This correlation is part of a paper I am writing. Berfore I get into that, I am already a aerospace engineer with a Doctorate in propulsion, I am also well versed in seven languages. So for those of you who say I have fried braincells, Checkout what damage those Rf signals give on your cell phones. Those of you who incinuated that I have low braincells, you were not objective and you read into the misconseption that just because I support it, that I use it. Anyway, the correlation is how people who believe that the media can present truthful information when they (media executives) have conflicts of interest are less likely to discuss a topic objectively. Thankyou for your answers.

The answer is simple. Marijuana consumption on a grand scale will hurt the economy. Also, it will change the minds of many intelligent people on the topic of "How important is capitalism?".

Edit: Mac- You are over-simplifying marijuana use by addressing only the negative aspects.

Edit: Some of these people clearly did not actually read this question but rather jumped to a conclusion. The question was not "why do you think marijuana should be illegal?". It is a question about our government and why THEY think it should be illegal. Read people.

Because common sense tells us that legalizing a substance that is directly linked to higher incidence of traffic accidents, trafficking of harder drugs, and use of harder drugs, is not a wise thing. (I know, it's hard to understand when you've fried some brain cells already. )

Frankly, I don't know why you would want to use a substance that is proven to cause memory loss and fertility loss, and impotence. HELLO!
