Will Protonix prevent me from absorbing other meds?

Will Protonix prevent me from absorbing other meds?I am taking Protonix for ulcers, I have just started taking Chantix to stop smoking. Will the Protonix prevent me from absorbing the Chantix? I have found a pproblem taking it with other medications and just don't know if it will work for the smoking cessation.

Your pharmacist should know the answer, and if there is a problem, your pharmacist should have been on his toes, so you'd better check with him.

any meds that are made to help absorb acids or help with stomach conditions absorb other meds taken within 2 hours of one another. Be careful with protonix, I was on it for ulcers as well, it worked great for a few months, then they increased my dosage, now it has an opposite effect on me, it causes severe abd pain. Just thought I'd let you know. Hope you have better luck!

Protonix will ease the stomach lining that is irritated from the ulcers. Protonix is only recommended for short term use. Since Chantix is relatively new, there may or may not be any interaction (s). I would ask the Doc that prescribed the medicine or even ask your Pharmacist. But, more than likely, it shouldn't cause a reduction in it's effect ( Chantix). Take the Protonix as directed and then wait an hour or two before taking the Chantix. Your stomach lining needs to heal, not become further irritated. the active ingredient of protinox belong to a group of drugs called proton pump inhibitor a very strong one although so yet protinox have the least interaction ant up till now there is no reported cases of interaction but for chantix the only drug interaction is drug thin er it is not suitable for pregnant or lactating or renal disease the drug drug interaction is not fully documented as it is still new drug it is also alter some drug pharmacodynamic so may affect drug metabolism and bio availability it may cause nausea and vomiting diarrhea or constipation for more info go for www.chantix.com hope it could help
