will smoking cause major health problems?i smoke very little, like one pack ever 3 weeks or so
i know its not good for me, but my grandparents all smoke and didn't have problems (well untill he was in his 80's)
im just wondering if thats even enough to cause serious health problems
Brandi
Smoking any amount can cause damage. It also increases the risk of lung cancer. Please remember when your grandparents smoked, alot of the chemicals werent used like nowdays. People get cancer from second hand smoke, even if they have never smoked a day in their life.

Try doing some research to back me up, but: some research suggests no. Smoking infrequently might not cause severe health problems. An article in Scientific American (it was from this year, but all other details elude me), suggests that some smokers who develop lung cancer and related issues have a genetic predisposition. That is, if your grandfather and your uncle have lung cancer, it's more likely you will develop lung cancer too (if you're a smoker). The converse may be the same as well. If no one in your family has had lung cancer, then you probably won't get it either (from smoking).
But this information is from one article that I only partially remember. To answer your question honestly, only time can tell.

No, the chance that it will cause major health problems is miniscule. However, watch that you don't increase the amount smoked, it's not uncommon to start off smoking only occasionally and then end up smoking more.
