With all the information on the effects of smoking , why do people start?What is wrong with people who hear all the devastating consequences for smoking, see the effects on others and smoke anyways? Just the cost of cigarettes exceeds the price of a car payment. The chances of living past age 45 is remote at best. Everyone knows it is addicting. It seems like such an incredibly stupid life choice with very little benefit. What is a person who decides to start smoking thinking?

Apathetic people. They know what it does and don't care.
Marijuana is much safer, because it has never killed a single person. Look it up.

they think that all that stuff wont happen to them and they think they can control their addiction but really they cant or sometimes peer pressure

Rarely pressure, I believe most start out of curiosity. Or a hobby. People do know all of this factual junk, yet choose not to take it into consideration when starting. Sometimes it's depression. To shorten life on purpose, they feel that they don't have to much to live for, or don't want to die old. That just my guess.
