While you're in the process of quitting smoking, how long does the craving for a cigarette last? 5 minutes?I've been smoke free for 9 and a half days. Last night, I got this incredible urge for a cigarette. I almost started shaking! All I wanted was to go outside, sit on my porch, and light one up. The craving lasted for what seemed forever... It's not the first craving like this. I've had several just like it over the past week. Actually, the first 2 days were easy to get through. It's been the past 7 that have been the hardest. So, how long should the craving last? 5 minutes or so? It seemed so much longer. I've done pretty well so far, but I have to say... If these cravings don't calm down, I'm going to fall off the wagon and buy another REAL EXPENSIVE pack of Malboro's... I told my wife that I could do this alone. No patch. No gum. I am standing by that, but it is getting much tougher. I need to talk to someone about it. Help? Anyone?

they generally last only a few minutes, but everyone is different. for me, the first 5 days was the words, for my ex, the second week was the worst. stick to it. 9 days is a really long time.
If you fall of the wagon, try the committ lozenges. they really worked for me. unfortunately when my girlfriend of 3 years left me (and took the dog) i started smoking again. I intend to quit in the near future.
good luck
Shameless
I heard the nicotine leaves your system in 2 days. So the urges you are having are in your head.
some friends of mine tried the smoking pill and loved it. they have been smoke free for months now.
I used nothing and am not doing so well... I have tried carrots, different routines, water etc... so hard!!
Darn those tobacco companies for making me smoke. ; )
slinkies
you need to get online and read, read, read ...
here is just 1 link

google quit smoking forum and find some fellow smokers to converse with ... nicotine screws up your serotonin levels and your blood sugar and you will be in withdrawal for a couple months while your wiring goes back to normal (this is where aides like welbutrin and stuff help out) ...
my bf has tried several times and finally found all of this kind of information and it has really helped him out ... knowing what to expect and when it will go away and why you are cranky or hungry, etc. will help your will power quite a bit
congratulations on your decision and good luck!!

I am an ex smoker. For me my cravngs lasted less than 5 minutes. But believe me, it will get easier. Whenever you feel like smoking, take a walk. Find a new hobby, focus on your health, exercise everyday. Just don't smoke. I recommend going to www.quitnet.com. It's members are very helpful. Helped me a lot.
Drink ice water or chew a gum when you get a craving and keep yourself busy
Kr!ssy
Well I'm sure not too long.
But one interesting thing I heard from a doctor on a TV show[hes a Phsycaritist] about quitting, is that if you chew gum while the craving hits, it will actually go away sooner! He says that gum manipulates the brain, so your urges go away!!
Good luck! and Good Job for quitting!:D
