Breathe Easy/Smoking cessation help please!! I need to write a paper on this!?I am in nursing school, and am ridiculed (through fun partly) every week in class for being smoker...my friend said that she heard a study on a public radio station about if you tell a smoker not to smoke, or have do not smoke signs around, this will instinctively make a smoker want a cigarrette, apparentley there was a study showing that if you instead tell a smoker to breathe easy, or have signs saying as so, it will not trigger the person to go smoke but to rather focus on easy breathing. I have searched the internet and cannot find an article on this, can anyone help me? I really want to write a paper on this for my anatomy & physiology class!

i believe there is some truth to this it is as simple as saying you can do this or you cant have this and just knowing you cant do it or have it you want It more...........

I quit 3 months ago. It is not the first time but I suspect it will be the last.
In Oct I had problems breathing and after too long of a delay I found I had Pneumonia which advanced to Empyemia.
I only tell you this because I want you to know it did nothing towards my quitting,
I was bed-ridden for almost a month in the hospital, at home for 3 weeks after that and I knew that smoking had nothing to do with the illness, I made the choice at that point to no longer smoke.
I saw the Oprah show about "breathe easy" and wanted to smoke more in that hour than I did when sitting in a bar, with a beer, surrounded by smokers.
There is not a day that goes by when I don't say; "damn, I'd like to have a smoke".
Slogans, patches, pills or laws might be of some help, but in the end only you can stop smoking. Kindda like forest fires. ;]
I guess I'm trying to say that every time I hear or am told I can't or shouldn't smoke, the more I want to. Shut up, go away and mind your own business. You are no more going to stop people from smoking than stop people from speeding.

Not only does it have to with rebellion (the more you are told not to smoke, the more you want to) but I think it also has a lot to with putting the thought into your mind. For example, let's say you walk into a room. You see a no smoking sign hanging on the wall. Up until you saw that sign, the thought of smoking a cigarette hadn't even entered your mind. Now that it has, that's all you think about. You want that cigarette, because someone reminded you that you have some in your pocket.

Easy breathing exercises to better quality of life and better health.Try it yourself, and get others to do it and then write.Very good idea.
Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after one minute.
Anulom Vilom –
Close your right nostril with thumb and deep breath-in through left nostril
then – close left nostril with two fingers and breath-out through right nostril
then -keeping the left nostril closed deep breath-in through right nostril
then - close your right nostril with thumb and breath-out through left nostril.
This is one cycle of anulom vilom.
Repeat this cycle for 20 to 30 minutes twice a day(maximum 60 minutes in one day).
You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep long breaths into the lungs. You can do this while sitting on floor or chair or lying in bed.
Kapalbhati -(Do it before eating) Push air forcefully out through the nose about once per second. Stomach will itself go in(contract in). The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically. Establish a rhythm and do for 20 to 30 minutes twice a day.(Max 60 min/day) Not for pregnant women. Seriously ill people do it gently.
