Does quitting smoking help with ones self-esteem and overall attitude?

Does quitting smoking help with ones self-esteem and overall attitude? Also, what are some other benefits other than the obvious "lower risk of lung cancer" occurrences will come of quitting smoking?

Yes and good for the people around you.

Girl Scout
When someone is able to say NO to something he/she wants but knows to be wrong, that is a true test of character. People are stronger when they are able to resist the temptation of vices.

Where is my mind
You will smell better, and Be able to smell and taste better.
More money.
less colds and coughs.
clearer mind plus more focus.
More last-ability (i always find that smokers head for the exits at the first sign of stress)
More stamina.

I even new one person that didn't need to wear her glasses as much after quitting (smoke gets in your eyes)

Quitting smoking is extremely hard to do!! The withdrawls suck!! But, they DO pass!! I quit cold turkey and my anxiety went up, had insomnia and constipation, mood swings, etc... But I didn't give up!! So, the benefits for me are:
*No more phlegmy cough upon waking up
*No more smokers cough
*Now able to take deep breaths that feel so so so good!!
*I feel "clean" inside
*I am proud of myself to have overcame such an addicting habit
*my skin looks better
*I don't stink anymore
*I whitened my teeth, and they're staying white!!
*I notice smokers outside buildings and feel bad for themthat they haven't quit yet (I see it as a weakness, so my self esteem has gone way up knowing I'm not one of "them" anymore. "Them" being the ppl who have to go outside to smoke, ppl who stink like smokers do, ppl who waste $ on such an icky habit, etc)
So, yeah, my self esteem has gone up!! Btw, I'm not one of "those" ppl who lecture others to quit!! I know that from being a smoker and having ppl nag me just made me resent those ppl!! Smokers quit when they are serious, commited, aware of withdrawls and are ready to do it for themselves.

Yes, of course. Congratulations. Girl Scout is absolutely right. This shows strength of your determination, self confidence, will power and clarity of thought. Quitting improves ur health and overall personality, releases finance for other more important and useful expenditure,. You will without ur knowledge, become an icon for those who want to quit but do not have the will power. Now what u can and should do is to approach NGOs like Alcoholic Anonymous, dealing with this issue and offer to interact with those who smoke and want to quit but could not and explain how you could arrive at the decision and implement it (to quit). This is a social responsibility and service you give back to the community.. You also should ensure that u never retract on ur decision.
