Is tobacco use detectable in a blood screening? If so how long does it stay in blood stream after last use?

Is tobacco use detectable in a blood screening? If so how long does it stay in blood stream after last use?I am trying to quit using chewing tobacco. I now only occaisionally use it. I have to get bloodwork done for my life insurance carrier and want to be "clean" for it.

Yes, chemicals can be detected in blood and other tissues from tobacco use. How long it can be detected depends greatly on what testing methode is used, how much and how often you chew and how determined the insurance carrier is in finding out. The length of time is so variable because of these factors that it could be anywhere from weeks to months andeven longer in a forensic investigaton.

I don't think you can do anything to be "clean" for the test. A tobacco user is a tobacco user, whether it is "occasional" or not. Talk to your agent and find out how much the tobacco rate is.

If the policy is issued and it is later found you used tobacco, the policy will be null and void with all premium paid returned.

Why put yourself through such a hassle??? There are a number of companies available that will offer you non-tobacco user rates. It is even possible to get preferred non-tobacco rates with a few companies, some of which you can chew tobacco at your paramed exam if you like. Good luck!

P.S. - Companies look for cotinine in your urine, not blood. Typically takes about 10 days to clean out of your system, but remember you do not need to torture yourself..get to the right company and you can chew all day long. :)
