Need help quitting smoking!?I am about to seriously try to actually quit this time. I was wondering what has worked for other people. I have smoked at least a pack a day for 13 years and here lately it's more like 2 packs a day. What stop smoking methods did you use? Meds? Gum? Patches? And what were the pro's and con's of each? What did you do to combat weight gain? I am very petite and worried about that. Any advice or personal experience would be greatly appreciated.

First thing you do is stop. Second thing you do is not pick up another one. I quit in 1992. I smoked two packs a day for about 4 years prior. That's the only way your going to quit. Is just do it!!! Good Luck

Put the pack down? Don't allow yourself to buy anymore.

I suggest you try everything at once. Use the gum, patches, everything you can. Also, remind yourself whenever you feel like smoking why you are quitting. Look up the negative effects if you have to and review them. Whatever you do, try to avoid buying them. I know its hard. I'm only fifteen and I smoked for a while till I got busted for being underaged so yea it was hard to not think about it. My answer is probably the worst but I'm really not sure "how" to quit. To this day I still want to smoke again, but yea I just remind myself the negatives.

I tried the patches once and they made me so nervous I thought I was losing my mind so I quit. I gave the whole thing some serious thought and picked a day that was going to be my last day. I chose my grand son's fifth birthday. I smoked like a chimney that whole day and that evening I threw my cigarettes out the window of my car and swore I would never pick up another one, I didn't tell any one I was doing it and I did quit. I have never started again. That was ten years ago. ate ice chips when I wanted to smoke and it took away that desire. It worked for me and I did not gain weight. I made sure tho that I always had the ice chips handy and tried to avoid being in places where people were smoking. Now it doesn't bother me and I am so glad that I am smoke free. No one ever said that it is easy but it sure is worth it in so many ways. BTW I smoked for 40 years so if I could do it any one can.
