Quit smoking?

Quit smoking? My boy friend and I are quitting, no cutting down, just cold turkey quitting. It's been pretty smooth for me, but he is so irritable. I had a good idea of reward system, like if we go cigarrette free for a week, on friday, we get a date. If one of us smoked, no date. Are they any good ideas out there that can give us good incentive, maybe take the edge off, you know whatever....? Thanx

The no date thing is not a good incentive. What you need to do is be supportive not against each other or treat it as a punishment! How about the reward be putting the money you would have spent on cigarettes into a bank and save up for a cruise together or something you like to do! As far as supportive, I quit cold turkey too. It really is the only way. I kept myself busy, so find a hobby together or go for a walk or jog, join a gym together. It will be healthier in the process as when you quit, food tastes better and the weight goes back on, so do it the healthy way.

I know it isn't easy. The first two weeks are the roughest. Even after 3 years, I still had a craving, but I knew I could never have another one or I would be right back at it as I had tried to quit 2 other times before that. When I quit, I was in the middle of a move so I kept myself busy, so do something more disruptive than your old routine.
I was really surprised that I actually quit. My incentive was to be able to afford my quilting addiction when cigarettes got to be expensive. lol My husband still hasn't quit though, but because of it, he has had to have his carotid artery cleaned out on both sides of his neck and he has also had a heart attack and even flat lined on the operating table. I know that one day I will lose him but it is hard to make someone quit when they have to make their own mind up to do so. I also began to realize later in life how bad it was to have smoked. I have lost my father in law, my best friend, her brother and a boss all due to lung cancer. My mom has emphysema and has to carry an oxygen tank around now and my dad also died of a heart attack due to smoking. My sister in law also had to have her carotid arteries cleaned out of both sides of her neck. She quit cold turkey because of it. Good luck and don't be discouraged. Just support each other. Find other substitutes like chewing gum, celery or carrot sticks. My daughter used the patch to help her quit and has successfully. Some do well with hypnosis, so you may have to try other methods as well if cold turkey isn't going well.
