What do you think about health insurance companies?I am in the health care field (I am a nurse)... I am sick of insurance companies! My mom was told by her dr. that she needed a hysterectomy, and the insurance decided they weren't going to pay because they thought she needed to try alternative procedures (D&C) Well, she got the D&C, and she STILL needs the hysterectomy! I'm sick of companies thinking they have the authority to make medical decisions for patients! Also, I called them to ask why they don't cover the new smoking cessation drug, Chantix, and they said, "Well, because there's no proof it prevents you from smoking." I said, "IT'S FDA APPROVED? What more proof do you need?" The lady reiterated her point that there's no proof, and I gave up. Insurance companies are so unethical and immoral! I could go on and on, but... What do yall think?

I definately think insurance companies SUCK. Yes, they pay for stuff, blah blah blah. They get to pick and choose what they think is right without even knowing the patients the way doctors do. I think it is sick and sad. I hate insurance!

Two fundamental problems make the present system of private insurance coverage a farce
First, all policies should be written as deductible like auto ins
Most of us can handle the smaller stuff. It is when we face a monster medical problem that we need maximum coverage
Second, the ins and HMOs etc HAVE to cut costs and can only do so by denying and limiting the level of care. When they do this, they are in fact practicing medicine, an action that is specifically forbidden by ?Federal Statues

I hate insurance companies as well. Why do you need permission to get something done that is needs to be done. My Fiancee needs to have a cortizone shot in his back. Not only does he have to get permission from the insurance company, but the MD says they have to do some kind of demographics???? It is such a shame. We live in the US and we have to get permission from insurance companies!!!!

They are not interested in your health definitely, period.
They a money maker machine, like lawyers, insurance companies.
Tax payers should feed the governments and in exchange Ministries of Health give the population a decent health system, like here in Canada.
Peace be with you.

I am actually very happy with my insurance company and my plan. I have had numerous knee surgeries and other procedures over the past 6 or 7 months and they have covered everything and have been really good to me. I have had a ton of complications and needed all kinds of alternative treatments and special equipment and they have been great to me. I realize not everyone has this experience, but I just wanted to share that although rare, sometimes there are good experiences with insurance companies.
