Where can I buy natural, unbleached paper that isn't recycled and isn't cut into squares for tobacco use?

Where can I buy natural, unbleached paper that isn't recycled and isn't cut into squares for tobacco use?I'm an art major, and I'm currently trying to find a source to buy natural, unbleached paper to use in a project. I don't want it to be recycled, nor do I want it to be RAW cigarette papers. Most of the sites that come up in a search are either for waxed paper, paper towels, or the RAW papers (or else I find sites preaching the environmental benefits of such paper but without places to buy it). If newsprint is, in fact, a raw, natural, non-recycled paper, please let me know!

The reason for such specificity is that I am creating an abstract "tree" partially out of paper, and I wanted to use paper that was exactly what you'd get just making it without any extra steps. I imagine it would be approximately the same shade as cardboard or paper bags, but that's just my guess. I'd prefer to buy something that comes in a roll over small sheets since I'll be sculpting the paper into long branches. If you've any suggestions, I'd love to hear them. Thanks so much for your help!

There are 2 types of paper making: groundwood (also called mechanical pulping) and kraft (chemical pulping).

Groundwood paper is made by pressing a debarked log against a grindstone (or mechanical refiner) which separates the individual fibers.

Kraft pulping uses chemistry to dissolve the lignin, the material that holds the cellulose fibers together. Groundwod paper still has the lignin.

Groundwood is a high yield pulp; 100 lb of tree will give you 90 lb of paper. Kraft pulp will yield about 45 lb of paper from the same 100 lb of tree.

Newspapers are primarily groundwood - if you're looking for a natural tree, that might be your chose. Bear in mind, lignin will yellow with time (think of old newspapers) and that will affect your art. Most newspaper also contain substanial amounts of old recycled newspapers.

Brown paper grocery bags are unbleached kraft paper. If you run that same paper through several bleaching stages, you would have white paper that you use every day.

All of the above may confuse you, but that's the nature of the beast - everything is either recycled or chemically altered.

Another alternative may be bagasse paper, made from sugar cane and such. This material when unbleached is a light brown/grey. Google bagasse paper to see if this fits with your needs.

Feel free to email me with any questions.
