Are people really happy after they quit smoking or using smokeless tobacco? no depression or mood swings?

People will definitely be a little more grumpy, or on edge while they're in the quitting stages. That's cause nicotine stimulates dopamine to be made, which is one of those "feel good" hormones. When you quit you go through a withdraw of that "good feeling" and if can be a little rough coming back to normal levels of it. Like being on vacation for a while and then having to go back to work. It sucks more the first couple of days at work, but then you get use to it again.
But my friend is over the withdrawal stage and he's very happy that he no longer smokes.
