Pipe smoking health affects, compared to cigarette smoking?

Pipe smoking health affects, compared to cigarette smoking?Im trying to convince my bf that pipe smoking is bad for you. I realize the tobacco isnt treated like in cigarettes and that your not supposed to inhale like with cigarettes but I know that some smoke has to end up in the lungs and that it has to have some health affects. Anyone have experience with this and have any facts about how the two habits compare? Thanks!!

Pipe smokers smoke more for the flavor than anything else. Yes, there is a nicotine addiction like with any tobacco but once a pipe smoker has discovered the many hundreds of different flavors it is nearly impossible to get them to quit. My brother has tried to get me to quit for more than a decade. It isn't going to happen.

Speaking as a smoker for more than 30 years I can say that quoting studies will have no effect at all on your BF. If by some strange chance you do manage to get him to quit, please send me all his tobacco. I'll be more than happy to dispose of it for you. :)

While its not without some health risks, pipe smoking is much safer than cigarette smoking. Studies have shown pipe smokers actually can live longer than some non smokers.

I myself smoke a pipe, and play hockey. I can tell you pipe smoking has not affected my hockey play at all. Stress and eating the wrong foods is also bad for you. Pipe smoking for me reduces stress, and makes me feel good. I am not addicted to pipe tobacco, I can go a week without smoking a pipe, and I don't have the withdrawl symptoms like a cigarette smoker does.

Well cigarettes are only a delivery device for nicotine. In other words whether you use cigarettes, pipe smoking, cigars, chew, snuff or any other Nicotine Replacement Therapy products it is the drug nicotine that forms our addiction. It is not a habit. If it was a habit then I could of quit years ago but being addicted I had to have my hit. Pipe smokers have a greater risk of throat cancer than cigarettes. One way or the other this drug does kill. An addiction is an addiction
