why did my doctor do this?i VERY SPECIFICALLY ask for a Precription for Chantix (medicine for smoking cessation)& 30 minutes later i gets a 30 day prescription for Wellbutrin and a prescription for Nicotine patches.
Was this some kind of Power trip or something?

Seems like it. I would have denied the patches and Wellbutin and gone back to him to ask why he would do that. You are in control of your health not him. If he explained why it wouldn't work for you or recommended something else, personally, then that's different but denying you a prescription without an explanation is inappropriate.
By the way, Chantix is crazy expensive. Just a heads up! lol

On occasion your physician will write a prescription for something and the pharmacy will call them and tell them that it's not covered and offer some alternatives. I frequently get called about Nicotine patches not being covered, but the gum is, so I'll say to go ahead and fill that prescription. That may be what happened here. Of course the best way to figure it out is to talk with your physician.

Us Yahoos don't know your Past Medical History, however your doctor probably does and may believe that Chantix is NOT suitable for you.
Your doctor should have spoken to you about any possible contra-indications and side-effects of Chantix to let you know why he is not prescribing it for you.
I think it is very rude of him to not talk with you about what he did prescribe for you. It is also unsafe that he did not advise you about side-effects of Wellbrutin and Nicotine Patches, if you were to use them.

You need to ask the doctor. There is no way that we can figure out what he/she was thinking. Potential medication interaction? Something in your medical history that makes Chantix a poor choice for you?
If could be that your insurance company dictated that substitution. They know what's best for you, after all. (that's sarcasm, btw)
The doctor SHOULD have discussed that with you. Call and ask why you got what you did, and politely request that further communication on matters regarding medication would be appreciated.
