im 18 and i'm a smoker. i grew up seeing my dad smoke. and i have lots of good memories at relatives houses where the whole place was overcome with second hand cigarette smoke. i guess when the two mix it's just natural. i grew up enjoying the strong smell therefore i picked up on it.

Whether you smoke or not, being around the smoker can allow you to easily become addicted as a smoker would. The smell of the nicotine enters your nasal passage and straight to the bloodstream, going all over your body, including your brain, where the nicotine sits in your receptors, making you want more. Second-hand smoke can be deadly. While it's different than actually smoking, of course, you can surely gain an affinity and moderate dependency for cigarettes simply by being around a smoker, depending on your level of exposure. This can easily pave the way to a full smoking dependency.
When I was just a kid, my best friend's mom would light up her cigarettes with a match! And the smell of the match first lighting the cigarette was so delicious and intoxicating, and this exact smell became instilled in my desires and I would try to sneak a smoke whenever I could with the limited opportunities that a child has.
I'm in my thirties now, and I've only spent about 4 or 5 years of my life smoking. Thankfully, I've been fortunate enough to not become addicted to the habit. I've got no use for cigarettes today.
