Because the status quo has been in control for so long. Their parents did it so it must be ok. I think I would much rather have my kid smoke pot than cigaretts or drink, anyday.

I don't see one any worse than the other but for some people it is because marijauna is illegal. If any thing I think that alcohol can be more destructive than marijuana because of the addiction factor. Lets not forget that alcohol was once illegal and see how that turned out so I think one day marijuana will be legal as well but it will take some time.
