Why is it necessary to have an anti-cigarette smoking law or rule inside and outside the school campus?Do you think it is necessary and practical to ban cigarette smoking inside and outside the school campus? Why or why not? I'm not saying that cigarette smoking should be banned totally inside the school campus. A designated smoking area inside the school campus will do.
Just to make it clear. I'm not saying that I'm pro to smoking. Actually, I don't like smelling cigarette smoke. I'm asking this because I would like to know the different views of people regarding implementing a no smoking policy in school and why do you think it is necessary and practical or vice-versa.

You should be lucky you can still smoke inside in your state! In Ohio you can't smoke anywhere inside! At my University you are not even supposed to smoke in open parking garages. You are also supposed to be 10 feet away from any doorway! If you choose to smoke you still need to be considerate of people who also choose not to kill themselves!

I agree with the first answerer. A lot of states (like my own, RI) have outright banned public smoking. That means smoking in public universities is also banned. I suppose private schools could make the choice themselves, but they'll likely just stick with the state regulations.

We all may still have to walk near smoking areas to get to class on time. There is no benefit to smoking, if you want to destroy your lungs and smell horrid you should do it on your own time and away from the rest of us. We still have to smell you when you walk around campus, and it is worse than most smokers realize because they are used to the smell. Why should people be allowed to smoke on campus? That is the real question.

What level of school? Are you taking about a high school or college campus. At our high school, no one, not eve a parent can smoke anywhere on HS property.
At most colleges I have visited there is a smoking area somewhere outside on campus. Smoking is banned inside any public or school building.
Personally I don't even like a smoking area outside on campus. You can not walk by a smoking area with out being overcome by a huge cloud of smoke- you got a group of people all puffing away in the same small area. A smoking area should be tucked away, where no one else has to walk past it in order to get to somewhere else.

To protect adults. They want to pretend that if they make a rule, kids won't smoke. Of course, they just do it anyway.
